Developing Integrated Solutions

From ad hoc integration of advances to conscious integration of technological advances

At EiA, we redefine the landscape of agronomic research and development by transitioning from the ad hoc integration of technological advances to a deliberate and conscious approach, ensuring cutting-edge innovation is at the core of our initiatives. Traditionally, agronomy R&D has seen limited and sporadic integration of state-of-the-art technological innovations. Recognizing the transformative potential of technology in agriculture, EiA commits to setting a new standard. We will systematically integrate technological innovations across all work packages and activity clusters, with a vision of achieving predictive agronomy-at-scale. In strategic partnership with leading Advanced Research Institutes outside the CGIAR network, we aim to be at the forefront of technological advancements. Unlike conventional practices where research topics are often driven by researcher interest and technological opportunity, EiA places paramount importance on meeting end-user needs. Our approach involves the deliberate integration of technological advances as standard practice, moving beyond proof-of-concept developments to ensure that innovations progress into practical applications for end users. To bridge knowledge gaps and efficiently produce agronomic solutions, EiA will implement strategic research projects in collaboration with Advanced Research Institutes. These projects will initially focus on addressing challenges related to climate change and enhancing the predictability of solution effectiveness. Regular and agile evaluation processes will be operationalized, allowing us to assess progress, celebrate intermediate successes, and adjust strategies as needed. In parallel, EiA is committed to capacity building, particularly for young scientists from National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS). Through degree-related training, joint research programs, and the establishment of communities of practice, we aim to empower institutes, foster knowledge exchange, and retain trained talent. EiA’s deliberate integration of technological advances marks a pivotal shift in the agronomic research landscape, propelling us toward innovative agronomic solutions that address the evolving challenges in agriculture and contribute to sustainable global food security.
