Holistic Assessment of Agronomic Gain

Holistic Assessment of Agronomic Gain

From ad hoc assessment of progress to operationalization of a holistic agronomic gain assessment framework

At EiA, we revolutionize agronomic research and development, shifting from ad hoc progress assessments to the operationalization of a comprehensive Agronomic Gain Assessment Framework. Unlike traditional approaches where monitoring and evaluation schemes vary across programs, often limited in scope and procedure, EiA is committed to providing a consistent and holistic framework that addresses the key challenges facing agronomy today. In our pursuit of excellence, EiA conceptualizes agronomic gain and meticulously prioritizes a set of Agronomy Gain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). These KPIs, aligned with industry standards, are designed to comprehensively measure the impact-dashboard of agronomic practices on productivity, resource use efficiency, and soil health. EiA recognizes the absence of a consistently applied framework within CGIAR and external programs and proudly introduces a solution that sets a new industry standard. Our innovative framework focuses on crucial aspects such as yield stability, profitability, labor productivity, and resource use efficiency, including vital indicators like nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) and phosphorus use efficiency (PUE). As we advance, we are also considering indicators related to yield quality and greenhouse gases to ensure a thorough assessment of agronomic solutions. The introduction of standardized operating procedures (SOPs) alongside our KPI framework serves a dual purpose. Firstly, it enables rapid, efficient, and robust monitoring of progress in developing agronomic solutions and their subsequent scaling across various programs and use cases within EiA. Secondly, it empowers decision-makers by facilitating agile go/no-go/modify decisions at different stages of the R&D process. This integrated approach positions EiA as a trailblazer in the agronomic R&D landscape, ensuring our efforts are not only cutting-edge but also strategically aligned with industry needs and challenges.
